Ezraeriel (Ezra or Ez to those closest to him) was born in the Summerset Isles and was orphaned in infancy. The exact events surrounding this point in his life are not known, even to him, but he was swiftly adopted by Perrinor, a close family friend and dedicated servant of Ezraeriel's household. He became the young child's father figure and guardian from that moment onward. He was found to have a strong aptitude for magic, which came as no surprise to Perrinor, and when Ezraeriel began to have dreams of the future, Perrinor urged him to keep his premonitions secret. He revealed Ezraeriel to be the last know member of the Starblood Mage bloodline, and that Perrinor, himself, was a member of the Order of Glass, sworn to protect him.At the age of ten, Ezraeriel was stolen away by strangers from the mainland of Tamriel. He found himself far from home and alone when he was sold to Telvanni slavers, who had an interest in his magical abilities. For over a decade, Ezraeriel was forced to use his magic to divine the future and seek out magical artifacts on behalf of his master.

When he was in his early twenties, Perrinor finally located and rescued him, and the pair fled the Telvanni Peninsula and went into hiding to prevent him from being found and exploited again. The family settled in Leyawiin, where Perrinor opened a tea shop and Ezraeriel was introduced to a close friend of his father, Ambrose, a priest of Julianos. Ambrose offered to teach Ezraeriel more of his magical abilities, and provide him with further protection if he began an apprenticeship under Julianos. Ezraeriel agreed and spends most of his days in the temple. When Ezra is not furthering his study of magic and learning how to be a priest, he is helping his father in their family tea house The Garden, serving their patrons and whisking up delicious desserts in the kitchen.

The Starblood Mages

CHILDREN OF THE STARS

STAR-KISSED

For scholars who try to research the enigmatic brotherhood of Ayleid wizards who called themselves Starblood Mages, the exact date of origin is greatly debated. All sources agree that the brotherhood formed sometime during the middle Merethic Era, but little evidence exists to allow researchers to be more precise in their dating. It is further debated how these mysterious mages came to be. There are many legends surrounding the mages, but the most popular say that a gifted young girl had a dream where she walked among the stars and saw the future. She awoke with silver markings on her body that became luminous in starlight, and her eyes no longer reflected the world -- but, rather, magic and light itself. She claimed to have been kissed by a star, and promised all who would join her in her star-walks that they, too, could achieve this status with study and dedication.Night after night, she would wander farther and farther into the great expanse between the Mundus and Aetherius, following trails of stardust to see things that had yet to come to pass, and to learn the origins of magic. As the child grew, her visions became stronger, and her understanding of magic surpassed the most experienced of wizards and mages of her village.

Word soon spread of the miraculous young woman, and mer came from near and far to hear of her walks among the stars. From these visitors, a handful would begin studying under her, and became locally known as Starbloods. The small cult of mages focused on the art of divination, illusion, and alteration, as they sought to learn the mysteries of the stars in the night sky, and they built a grand monastic observatory where they could study the cosmos and the very foundations of magic itself. It was at this time that the brotherhood began to isolate itself from the rest of the world and the cruel direction of their race and kings.

THREADS OF DESTINY

For centuries, the Starblood Mages were viewed as an eccentric and eclectic order as its members preferred solitude and contemplation to the chaos of the outside world, but word of their peaceful lives and abilities to divine the future began to spread.Leaders and rulers began visiting the Starblood Monastery, seeking favor and readings to know of their futures and whether or not they would see prosperity -- or ruin. Nobility began bringing their offspring to receive blessings of fortune.

In this way, the brotherhood of Starblood Mages were elevated in status and became highly prized in noble and royal courts as trusted advisors. They became known as advocates of peace during this time, refusing to take part in wars or the petty squabbles that often plague noble courts. They became ambassadors for their respective lords, meeting with others of their order to discuss peaceful terms on behalf of their lieges. They grew so powerful, that a new order, known as the Order of Glass, arose to protect them and their passive ways, taking up arms to defend them and escort them in their travels. It was during this time that the brotherhood of Starblood Mages saw their zenith.

FALLEN STARS

Toward the end of the Ayleid Era, very near the Alessian Slave Rebellion, the Starblood Mages would see their own ruin and downfall in the form of a vengeful princeling. When presented to the Starblood Mages to be proclaimed a worthy successor to his father's throne, the unnamed princeling was denied and named unfit by the grand master of the monastic order. As a result, the throne was passed to the princeling's younger brother, who found approval with the Starblood Mages and deemed worthy.

The unnamed prince grew into a resentful, cruel being, who felt his title and life had been stolen from him by the Starbloods. With one judgement, he had been denied a crown that he believed should have rested upon his brow, and not that of his lesser brother. As his rage grew, so did his support within his kingdom, and a coup amassed to overthrow his brother and usurp his throne. With his kingdom securely in his hands, the now-king turned his sights on the monastic order that had foreseen his cruelty. The king and his armies marched upon the Starbloods of his kingdom, burning their observatory to the ground and eradicating members of the Order of Glass. Starbloods were proclaimed traitors and executed throughout the land. Starbloods in other courts and kingdoms soon worried for their safety as agents of their enemy hunted them down in the name of their king. Where once they found sanctuary in the courts of their nobility, the Starbloods were met with betrayal and persecution, with many banished from the lands of their liege lords to face arrest and death. The final stand of the Starblood Mages took place in the first monastery built by the mages, known as the Glass Tower, but defeat was certain. Knowing the fate of her followers, the founding lady gave a final prediction to her oppressors, that this kingdom -- and others like it -- would fall to the cruel hands of vengeance, as her own brotherhood had.Not long after, her predictions came true, with the events of the Alessian Slave Rebellion.Speculation abounds to this day about whether or not any Starblood Mages survived the massacre. Rumors claim that there were survivors who managed to escape persecution and took their practices underground to meet in secret. More rumors say they fled to the Summerset Isles. No one truly knows the answers, with almost all history of this order lost to scholars following the burning of their monasteries and observatories. Few remnants remain to tell their story.

MAGICAL ABILITIES | Divination, Illusion, Alteration, Restoration & Conjuration
MAGICAL COMPETENCY | Adept

Ezraeriel is known to be a kind, and gentle soul. Many would describe him as shy, especially around new people he does not know, taking a good, long while to warm up to strangers in many instances. He rarely meets the gazes of others so as to avoid his most obvious tell that he is more than he appears when people are unable to see their reflections in his eyes.He is generous to a fault, and once he trusts, he trusts far too much. He wants to see the good in people, but he has a strange wariness about him that sometimes makes it difficult to get too close into his confidences. Once that has been achieved, however, his loyalty never wavers. He selflessly serves and protects those he loves, especially his father, Perrinor.Ezraeriel is described as a pacifist by nearly all who know him. He abhors violence and prefers to mediate a path of peace when possible. He has been taught how to fight by Perrinor, however, but he uses such tactics as a last resort or in self-defense.

Additional Features

STRANGE MARKINGS | He has silver markings that he was born with, according to Perrinor -- a mark of the Starblood Mage bloodline. These marks glow at night, in starlight, and his magical senses are heightened during this time as well. He does his best to keep these marks hidden as much as possible and refers to them as tattoos if people inquire about them.

EYES | His eyes do not reflect people and things as most eyes do. Rather, his eyes reflect only two things: light and magic. His eyes glow faintly in starlight, much like his markings, and become especially luminous when he is looking into the future.

WEAPONS | He carries what appears to be a rather ordinary staff made of carved wood, but when he uses his magic, this staff transforms into a more magnificent weapon. It becomes a spear with a tip that appears to be made of crystal or glass. This crystal spear tip is extremely durable and cannot be broken by regular means.

Hooks

ACOLYTE OF JULIANOS | Ezraeriel is in training to be a priest of Julianos as a front for his magical studies. However, he is starting to actually believe in the Divine, when he had previously not done so as an Altmer. He finds it fascinating and grounding.

MAGE | While he does his best to hide his abilities most of the time, Ezraeriel is a mage above all else. He practices the schools of Illusion, Alteration, Restoration, and Conjuration, as well as practicing the art of divination. He does not easily disclose this final branch of study to many.

TEA HOUSE | Ezraeriel and his father, Perrinor, have been in hiding for years in Leyawiin. They own a tea shop known as The Garden, where they live quiet, unassuming lives.

Rumors

Common

Cyrodiil (Leyawiin) | "Ezra is such a sweet thing, but he's so damn shy. He's always looking away from you and acting kind of squirrely. His father says he went through some trauma when he was younger. Maybe that's it?"

Cyrodiil (Leyawiin) | "If you want great tea and even greater atmosphere and service, head over to The Garden. It's run by an Altmer and his son. They're private and keep to themselves, but they are great hosts and they know how to make some amazing tea. Ezra, the son, is especially good in the kitchen. You should try his sweetrolls. Best in the county!"

Cyrodiil (Leyawiin) | "Now I've seen everything. I never thought an Altmer would become a follower of Julianos, but I heard young Ezra has joined the clergy under Abbot Ambrose."

Uncommon

Cyrodiil (Leyawiin) | "I swear, Ezra knows everything. I ran into him on my way home and he mentioned he thought we might get a late spring frost. He said the weather had been turning, but it's not the first time he's said something like that and it happened exactly when he said it would. He said I might want to cover up my fruit trees. So glad I listened! Would have lost a whole harvest of apples!"

Cyrodiil (Leyawiin) | "Have you ever noticed how Perrinor practically hovers over his son? I get being a protective parent, but he acts like something bad will happen to that boy. I feel bad for Ezra sometimes. Must be hard to have a parent smothering you like that."

Cyrodiil (Leyawiin) | "Sometimes, I think Ezra's going a little mad. He was talking to the flowers in the temple gardens. I've seen him do it at that tea house of his. Weird, no?"

Rare

Cyrodiil (Leyawiin) | "I overheard Perrinor scolding Ezraeriel last night. I guess the boy snuck out of the house in the middle of the night. His father was going on about how, 'Someone might have seen you,' and, 'Did you stay out of the starlight?' What's so wrong with a little starlight stroll?"

Cyrodiil (Leyawiin) | "I've seen Ezra's silver tattoos before while at the tea house, but this morning, I happened to see him in the window of his family's house. Looked like he was getting dressed, so I didn't linger, but he turned around and I saw those marks all over his back, too. I wonder what they mean. I get that tattoos don't always have a significance, but that's a huge tattoo. It has to mean something, right?"

Cyrodiil (Leyawiin) | "Some Dunmer came into town the other day. Telvanni, I'd presume, by the way they acted. They didn't talk to me, but I heard them asking the guards questions about an Altmer with silver tattoos. You don't think they were looking for Ezra, do you? Well, anyway, they were escorted out of the city because they were causing a nuisance. Good riddance."
